Bwindi forest and the surrounding area of Rushaga are situated on the Albertine Rift, a region of exceptional biodiversity where the Great Lakes meet the Great Rift Valley. There are 37 species of bird that are endemic to the Albertine Rift, meaning that they can only be found there, such as the regal sunbird and the great blue turaco.
Our lead bird specialist, Gilbert, is an incredible guide with considerable knowledge and passion when it comes to birds of all kinds. He or one of his team will accompany you on a walk through the local terrain and point out the many different species of bird you might see. A bird watching tour is also a brilliant way in which to experience the natural habitat that Bwindi Conservation for Generations Foundation is working so hard to try and preserve.
We recommend that bird watching tours are carried out in the early morning in order to maximise opportunity to see different species, but it is possible to have a tour at any time of day. There is the option of taking a tour within the national park however this will be subject to the park entry fee of $40 per person.
